Judgment Day and Hell
Bible Study Network

“Judgment” . . . “Hell” . . . these are topics that are not talked about
very often.  This is an area that makes even churchgoers and their
pastors nervous.  But, it is critically important that any seeker of God
understand the consequences of sin.  We must understand the penalty
for sin before we can truly appreciate our need for being saved from that
penalty.

In various places, the Bible tells us that a day of judgment will fall
upon unforgiven sinners.  Here is one example:  “Near is the great day of
the LORD, near and coming very quickly; listen, the day of the LORD!
In it the warrior cries out bitterly.  A day of wrath is that day, a day of
trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of
darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness, a day of
trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and the high corner
towers.  I will bring distress on men so that they will walk like the blind,
because they have sinned against the LORD; and their blood will be
poured out  like dust and their flesh like dung.” (Zephaniah 1:14-17
NASB.)

Hell was not made for us, but for Satan and his demons. (Matthew
25:41.)  However, if a sinner faces judgment on Judgment Day, then
Hell is his destiny.  “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life
was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:15.)

“But cowards, those who refuse to believe, who do evil things, who
kill, who sin sexually, who do evil magic, who worship idols, and who
tell lies – all these will have a place in the lake of burning sulfur. This is
the second death.”  (Revelation 21:8 NCV.)

What is Hell like?  Some people wrongly believe that Hell is where
their partying here on earth continues into eternity.  However, hear how
Jesus describes Hell:  “. . . hell, into the fire that shall never be
quenched— where ‘Their worm does not die and the fire is not
quenched.’” (Mark 9:45-46.)  This does not seem like much of party.
Instead, it is sheer torment—forever!

“. . . only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life” can
enter into heaven. (Revelation 21:27.)
